We Went To – Shake n’ Rattle for Zach’s Battle
We Went To…
Shake and Rattle for Zach’s Battle
At just 6-years-old, Zach has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and faces some tough challenges ahead. This event at the White Horse in Welton was organised to raise awareness of DMD and also funds for the equipment and treatment that Zach will need as the disease develops.
There is no cure, but a whole lot of dedication, love, and of course, money, will go a long way to improve his quality of life. That’s the unfortunate set of circumstances that leaded to this event, but we never once detected any pity or sadness. The atmosphere was the same as a family barbecue only with a MASSIVE family and awesome bands and DJ.
The event itself was packed with so much support turning out to listen to The Settings, Brazen Foxes (See Daventry Jam report on these pages), Phantom Isle, and headline rockabilly act The Retrobaits (Zach introduced them to huge applause).
Friend of Daventry Radio, Sound n’ Motion provided the disco with DJ Richard Cooper playing his signature mix of all kinds of music that got people dancing and singing along.
The addition of a huge barbecue, outside bar, bouncy castle for the kids and a raffle (with signed Saints shirt and a guitar amongst the prizes!) Zach’s parents, Laura and Josh, with the help of some amazing friends and family, had managed to put on a mini festival that could easily have been a success even if there was no important reason behind it!
As you can see from the pictures, it was a huge success and we will be grabbing an interview with the organisers, Sarah, Lizzie and Cheryl and Zach’s parents (hopefully Zach himself too!) later this week as they were just too busy keeping everything running and everyone happy to sit down with us, (plus we didn’t want to get in the way!) We will be updating this report when we have met with them but for now check out the gallery, and interview with Phantom Isle.

All four bands plus Sound n’ Motion gave their time and energy for free to support this worthy cause and Daventry Radio would like to extend its sincerest admiration and support for pulling off a professional level event which we are sure will boost DMD awareness and Zach’s battle.
Shake’N’Rattle for Zach’s Battle – how much was raised?!?
Firstly a little background….
Zach is 7 years old and was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) completely out of the blue on 11th Dec 2017.
DMD is a genetic disorder characterised by progressive muscle wasting and weakness. It is devastatingly cruel, always fatal and there is currently no cure. It is the most common fatal disease diagnosed in childhood with an average life expectancy of just 26 years and yet very few of us have ever heard of it.
Not long after his diagnosis Zach’s mother, Laura Holland, bumped into Sarah Franklin, and her partner Darren.
Laura had never met Darren and was extremely touched when he he told her his band, The Retrobaits, wanted to hold a fundraiser to raise money for Zach.
Fast forward 10 months and the first fundraiser meeting took place between 3 friends. Sarah, Cheryl Suthers and Laura’s mother, Lizzie Shisler who met in November 2018.
“We threw about a few ideas for a modest fundraiser in the new year. We met again in January 2019 and put out a Facebook request for possible venues. A reply came in from Margaret Elcock, landlady at The White Horse in Welton, who suggested her pub as a venue & said she would love to help with our fundraiser.”
Excitement for a possible festival style event started to grow but would anyone come and more importantly could we actually pull it off?
Fast forward again to Saturday 13th July and following 6 months of hard graft the answer was a resounding yes!!!
Without the generosity of so many people we would not be able to announce that Shake’N’Rattle for Zach’s Battle raised a jaw dropping £4049.41!!!
“We want to thank every single person who
who gave their time and services for free and who attended, contributed,
donated and supported Zach’s Battle We are completely overwhelmed and
delighted that we were able to raise so much to help Zach and his
