Shieldzy writes about Mental Health Awareness

Today was World Mental Health Awareness day and though the stigma of depression and mental health is slowly being lifted, there’s still lots of work to be done.

Everyone knows someone, or has been, in a dark place and try to deal with it in different ways. Even just helping someone close who is suffering can be a challenge.

Hope and coping mechanisms come in many forms and to mark this important day, Ash Shields, AKA Shieldzy, and presenter of Daventry Radio’s Not so Normal Urban Show has decided to share his personal experiences in the best way he knows how – through music.

DR are at the forefront of championing local talent, especially when one of “our own” has something to say about such an important issue.

Teaming up with producer Feelo, Ash bares his soul on “Dreams All Die” which can be heard here. (Explicit Lyrics)

Check out his thoughts on the subject in this haunting track and what he had to say.

“As a sufferer of depression (sic) and having family members that also suffer with it, I wanted to express what it feels like to have it on some music although some cases are worse than others it is a horrible thing to have and people that don’t have it never really understand the whole story and what it truly feels like. I hope this can shed a little light. Get the word out there so more people can understand what depression truly is so more people can be helped and overcome it.”
