With GP teleconsultations on the rise a charity is calling for all over-65s to have an annual stethoscope check at their local surgery for the most common form of heart valve disease.

 

Heart valve disease is a common, serious yet treatable condition, where the heart valves no longer work properly, and affects more than 1.5 million people in the UK over the age of 65.

 

New research released to mark Heart Valve Disease Awareness Week, reveal that the vast majority of older British people remain unaware of it and are less likely than their European counterparts to receive a simple initial test for its early detection.
