Opening date named for Moulton Leisure Centre launch

Residents in the east of Daventry District planning a January fitness drive will be able to do so at a new facility after the opening date for Moulton Leisure Centre was confirmed.

Everyone Active, which manages the state-of-the-art centre in partnership with Daventry District Council (DDC), has announced that the doors will open on Saturday, January 2.

For members of the public who wish to have a sneak peek before the official launch, open days will take place on Monday, December 28 and Tuesday, December 29.

Tours will be offered from 8am-6pm and no booking is necessary. Social distancing measures will be observed and masks are to be worn, except for those who are exempt.

Run previously as the Chris Moody Centre by Moulton College, the site has been converted into a second public leisure centre for the district – alongside Daventry Leisure Centre – using £8.5million of funding from local housing developer contributions.

It will offer a diverse range of facilities, including a six-lane, 25m swimming pool with moveable floor, two therapy pools and a changing area specifically for baby and pre-school swimming.

The first health spa in the area – comprising a steam room, sauna and spa pool – is among the attractions, while a 60-station fitness suite, multi-activity studio, spin studio and extended car park are also included.

Facilities open from January 2 will be the 25m swimming pool, fitness suite, multi-activity studio and spin studio, with the remaining facilities to follow at a later date as part of a phased opening.

Simon Fearn, area manager for Everyone Active, said: “This fantastic leisure centre is the perfect modern facility for Moulton’s families and it’s a great next step in our growing partnership with Daventry District Council.

“The centre will combine excellent facilities with our award-winning activities that we hope will support locals’ health and wellbeing in the east of the Daventry District.”

Plans for a new leisure centre in the eastern part of Daventry District were identified as the top priority in DDC’s 2019 Sports Facilities Investment Strategy. The area is experiencing major population growth and more leisure facilities are needed.

Councillor Alan Hills, Portfolio Holder for Community, Culture and Leisure on Daventry District Council, said: “It has been a long-term ambition of this council to deliver a high-quality leisure facility to meet the needs of communities in the east of our district, so I’m thrilled we have achieved that.

“The new centre will offer a fantastic range of leisure services that will benefit people in Moulton and the surrounding area for many years to come.

“Our partnership with Everyone Active has delivered first-class leisure facilities for the people of this district, so we’re very pleased to continue and expand on that partnership with this exciting project.”
