Lana Del Rey Finally Sets The Record Straight Over ‘Mesh’ Face Mask After Facing Backlash

Lana Del Rey has finally spoken out after facing backlash when she was seen sporting what looked to be a mesh face covering last month.

The Normal Fucking Rockwell singer came under fire from fans after she was spotted wearing a bedazzled mesh mask at a book signing, where she also performed a poetry reading for those in attendance.

As more pictures from the event were posted online, it was also revealed that the star had also posed for photos with fans without social distancing, while still wearing the face covering in question.

A month later, Lana has now addressed the criticism, insisting that the mask in question had clear plastic sewn on the inside of it.

Responding to an article on The Michigan Daily’s website titled “Lana Del Rey wore a mesh mask. What now?”, which speculated whether Lana had been “cancelled” because of the controversy, she wrote back: “Great article. The mask had plastic on the inside. They’re commonly sewn in by stylists these days.”

“I don’t generally respond to articles because I don’t care. But there ya go,” she responded.

“Same goes for everyone’s masks in my video. I’m lucky enough to have a team of people who can do that.”

The same article also referenced the fact that some fans had speculated that Lana may have voted for Donald Trump in the recent US presidential election, something which she has already denied once.

In a subsequent tweet, she added: “Again not that I believe it’s anyone’s business at all-but I made it clear who I voted for. And I don’t [glamourise] tough relationships. Relationships can just be tough. Period.

“Every other singer sings about the same damn thing. Always have, Probably always will. Thanks stay tuned.”

Earlier in the year, Lana faced a huge backlash, after suggesting many of her peers had been rewarded for singing about themes that she’d been criticised for in the past.

When many pointed out that the majority of the artists she’d singled out for their success – including Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj and Doja Cat – are women of colour, the singer came under fire online, later denying accusations of racism.

In the same statement, the star teased that her seventh album under the Lana Del Rey moniker, Chemtrails Over The Country Club, would be released in September, though this has now been pushed back to 2021.
