A series of guided walks will take place this September to celebrate Heritage Open Days. Heritage Open Days is an annual festival which celebrates our diverse history, architecture and culture. Led by Mayor of Daventry Mike Arnold, these walks will explore Daventry’s history and hidden secrets in two locations, Borough Hill and the town centre.

On Saturday 14th September, take a trip back through the ages of Borough Hill to learn about the history of the hill, from its formation about 140 million years ago to the present day. Walks set off from the main car park at Borough Hill, and there are a choice of two walks, one from 11am to 1pm, and one between 3pm and 5pm. Walkers should note that the site is mostly rough grass tracks with steep slopes and uneven ground, with some areas inaccessible to wheelchairs.

Back in the town centre, the Mayor will be your guide for a walk through the history of Daventry, including how it came to exist and individual points of interest. Join the walk on Sunday 15th September from 2pm to 3.30pm, or on Wednesday 18th September from 6pm to 7.30pm, meeting on the front steps of Daventry Holy Cross Church.

This is a town centre walk mostly on pavements and pedestrian areas although there is a need to cross roads and climb kerbs. Disabled parking is provided in all the town car parks and on street parking should be available close to the start.

No booking is required for these guided walks and they are free of charge, although donations to the Mayor’s chosen charities are welcome.
