Daventry Remembers Its Fallen

Hundreds of Daventry citizens marched through the town centre streets on Sunday to take part in the Remembrance Day Civic Parade and Service and to pay their respects at the war memorial with the laying of wreaths.

With the streets packed with families and veterans and a parade of serving and retired service men and women, a moving ceremony was held with hymns and prayers.

Following the ‘Last Post’ the crowd stood, heads bowed, in complete silence as thoughts turned to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. As the names of every fallen Daventry WW1 And WW2 soldier were slowly read the reverence was remarkable as the crowd listened to the roll of honour.

Afterwards the parade moved to Holy Cross Church where a Civic Service was held and colours were presented by armed and uniformed services as well as youth groups. Young Cubs and Brownies joined older children from the various Cadet Corps and in the march and service. Dignitaries from The town and District Councils were also present and were seen paying tribute to the young children who had come to show their respect.
