Virtual and Veritable Cabinet of Curiosities exhibition.

Daventry Museum is reopening with an exhibition all about collections and collecting it will be the Museum’s first exhibition since the C-19 lockdown. As with all their exhibitions and events, entry to DaventryMuseum is free. In order to ensure the safety of visitors and staff they ask that bookings are made for Saturday open days and this can be done via Eventbrite, the website or by email to [email protected] Weekday admissions do not require prior booking.

The museum team have been beavering away during this period of closure and now look forward to welcoming back visitors. They have been awarded the Visit England ‘Good to Go’ tick and full details on opening times and safety measures, can be found on the website alongside the slightly adjusted opening times, to allow for extra cleaning.

A Virtual and Veritable Cabinet of Curiosities exhibition runs from Tuesday 29 September until Saturday 5 December (Tue-Fri 10am-1pm and the first Sat of the month 10am-2.30pm). It is an exhibition about collecting and collections, with the Veritable Cabinets of Curiosityinside the museum displaying early transistor radios, Daisy Smith paintings, Lego, vintage books, wartime postcards, stones, costume andDaventry crockery. And the Virtual Cabinets of Curiosity online (via the website) in the form of a video of beautiful collections shared by visitors, and a video of historical group photographs from the archive, both also available on the Town Council’s YouTube channel. Can you help to put a name any of the faces in these delightful photographs?

Further into the autumn season, the museum is inviting interactive theatre company Don’t Go Into The Cellar back for a special, All Hallows’ outdoor performance of Spooky Victorian Fairy Tales, suitable for the young and young at heart! This autumn they’re taking the action outside, so on Thursday 29th October at 2pm the spooky performance will take place on the steps of Holy Cross Church, Daventry. Places are limited due to the current restrictions so don’t delay, book your place by emailing the museum [email protected]
