Daventry Museum Reopening for special Saturday Open Day 12 September and then from Tuesday 29th September. Virtual and Veritable Cabinet of Curiosities exhibition.

Daventry Museum is reopening with an exhibition all about collections and collecting it will be the Museum’s first exhibition since the C-19 lockdown. As with all their exhibitions and events, entry to Daventry Museum is free. In order to ensure the safety of visitors and staff they ask that bookings are made for Saturday open days and this can be done via Eventbrite, the website or by email to [email protected] Weekday admissions do not require prior booking.

The museum will reopen on Saturday 12 September from 10am-2.30pm as part of the Heritage Open Days festival which runs from 11 to 21 September. This year the festival is welcoming online events and as such the museum team have curated a Google Tour of Daventry on the theme of Hidden Nature, featuring photos from the museum archive and oral histories. This can be enjoyed via the website from Friday 11 September, just go to the ‘What’s On’ and ‘News’ pages of www.daventrymuseum.gov.uk  There you will also find a new self-guided walk of Borough Hill to download (or pick up it in person on the 12th), complete with a viewpoint plan of Northamptonshire and beyond, all visible at certain times, from Borough Hill. Why not take it with you and enjoy an autumnal walk on one of the most important ancient Hill Forts in England.

The museum team have been beavering away during this period of closure and now look forward to welcoming back visitors. They have been awarded the Visit England ‘Good to Go’ tick and full details on opening times and safety measures, can be found on the website alongside the slightly adjusted opening times, to allow for extra cleaning.

After Saturday 12th, the new exhibition, A Virtual and Veritable Cabinet of Curiosities runs from Tuesday 29 September until Saturday 5 December (Tue-Fri 10am-1pm and the first Sat of the month 10am-2.30pm). It is an exhibition about collecting and collections, with the Veritable Cabinets of Curiosity inside the museum displaying early transistor radios, Daisy Smith paintings, Lego, vintage books, wartime postcards, stones, costume and Daventry crockery. And the Virtual Cabinets of Curiosity online (via the website) in the form of a video of beautiful collections shared by visitors, and a video of historical group photographs from the archive. Can you help to put a name any of the faces?

**Book your places for some free half-term fun with Daventry Museum and Don’t Go Into The Cellar’s, All Hallows’ outdoor theatre performance of Spooky Victorian Fairy Tales. Thursday 29th October, 2pm on the steps of Holy Cross Church, Daventry.**
