Coffee and crisp recycling schemes make a difference

Crisp munchers and coffee drinkers have helped raise more than £500 for a good cause by recycling their empty packaging

Around six pallets-worth of coffee capsules and 25kg of crisp packets have been left at Daventry District Council’s (DDC) recycling drop-off in the last year.

The haul has earned DDC £584 in recycling credits from Terracycle – money which has been now donated to the Chairman of the Council’s chosen charity, Time2Talk.

Time2Talk is a small charity operating solely within Daventry District and South Northamptonshire which offers free information, counselling and preventative intervention services for young people aged 13 to 25.

Chairman of the Council, Councillor David Smith, said: “Time2Talk is a fantastic charity which does really important work in the local area and I’m very proud to be fundraising for them during my year in office.

“My thanks to everyone who has taken the time and the trouble to put their empty crisp packets and coffee packaging in our drop-off point. This money will help them make a real difference to young people locally.”

Andrew Nixon, Chief Operating Officer at Time2Talk, said: “We are thrilled to be receiving this donation as a result of everyone’s efforts to recycle. The funds will go towards continuing our free therapy sessions for young people aged 13-18 and up to 25 with a special educational needs, so it’s a big help.”

The coffee packaging recycling drop-off point takes Tassimo pods and outer packaging, L’OR capsules, Kenco Eco Refill packs and coffee jar lids, while empty crisp packets as well as multi-pack packaging can be dropped off in a separate box.

Both drop-off points are located in the Council’s reception area at its Lodge Road offices in Daventry and are available Monday to Thursdayfrom 9am to 5pm and on Fridays between 9am and 4.30pm.

Public drop-off locations for a range of different products can be set up anywhere that is accessible to the public, and offer a great way for groups to earn money for local causes while helping people to recycle.
