A5 Road Closures – Residents Still Confused

Local residents say they are still none the wiser about the reason for, and duration of, the night-time road closures along the A5.

Residents have been told to contact Mike Healy on 07964 114 623 or via [email protected] but some say that this is just an answerphone with no response to their questions.

Information released by Highways England has been found to be incomplete and unclear and residents traveling from Towcester and the M1 say that the diversions are misleading drivers. One sign at the Towcester roundabout shows that the A5 is closed to Weedon and the diversion takes traffic along the A43 before going north along the M1 and back again down the new A45 Flore bypass. In fact, the road is open all the way to Weedon and the road closures only begin at the Weedon BP garage with access to Weedon available via Ellands Lane opposite Clark’s Garage.

Another problem seems to be the lack of coordination between Highways England and local services. One local resident reported stranded buses trying to get through saying, “This is ridiculous no communication between bus company and Highways.”

Weedon residents who did receive letters concerning the closures have taken to social media, complaining that they have found them less than helpful. This is the information given so far by Highways England and Weedon Bec Parish Council. They may well have a point.
